Tick Bite Prevention Week

The first sunny weekend of the year sees us reaching for the shorts, t shirts and sun cream, but those of us doing any outdoor activity must also remember to check afterwards to make sure that we haven’t picked us any ticks. These little mites latch onto exposed flesh to feed on the host’s blood, but can carry an unpleasant condition called Lyme Disease.

This week is Tick Bite Prevention week in the UK. There is more information about ticks and Lyme on the Physiobench site or at BADA UK. One of the main messages is that you don’t have to be doing extreme outdoor activities to be at risk of picking up a tick, scouts at camp or kids in the park are at risk as well as orienteers running through thick forests.
